SCS Monday Challenge "Clean and Simple cards - color combo red, white & black"

This is my submission for Splitcoaststampers Monday Challenge for the Clean and Simple card using the challenge criteria to use red, white and black.  A clean and simple card is all about the design - not the embellishments, technique, or tools.  I don't use much that isn't Stampin' Up! but I couldn't pass up this stamp when I found it recently.  LOVE this saying, which has become popular lately - it's from a WW1 poster used in Britain to keep the citizens' morale up.  (If you Google it, you'll find the interesting story behind it!)  Since my poor manager is always getting ragged on by administration, I'll be giving it to her to remind her to "Keep Calm and Carry On" :)

SCS "Ways to Use It" Challenge for 6/23 - "No White Cardstock"

So, I finally got brave enough to submit some cards in the challenges on Splitcoaststampers.  It's kind of cool because it's really making me stretch my imagination to come up with designs - kind of like homework, but more fun, you know?  Well, definitely much more fun than the homework I get in grad school, for sure :)  This challenge was to use no white cardstock.  The only white you see there is white craft ink that I rolled the scallop circle punch out in to get a little contrast.  Unfortunately, Bobby Vinton's "Blue on blue . . ." kept running through my mind while I was creating.  Showing my age, I guess ;)

Happy stamping!

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch Challenge for 6/22/11

I finally got brave enough to try a card sketch challenge.  This is where a designer gives you a "sketch" and you have to make a card that matches it.  I decided to experiment with one of the new In Colors, Calypso Coral (which turned out WAAAAAAAY more orange in this photo than it actually is!!!  Yeesh.).  This sort of color is definitely out of my comfort zone, but anyway, here's what I came up with.

. . . and here is the sketch from Splitcoaststampers.

One for the boys . . .

Now, I mentioned a couple days ago all the gals at work that are expecting.  Two are having girls, one mentioned she's having a boy (and today, the other found out she's having a boy).  I was playing around with colors & punches late last night & came up with this card.  I'm not particularly fond of the old "baby blue" color for boy cards - it looks "sissy" to me sometimes :)  So I used some neutral colors with the new Island Indigo color for a more understated look.  What do you think?!

Whimsical Wisteria Wonder

I'm loving the new In-Colors.  Been wanting to try Wisteria Wonder paired with Concord Crush, so here's what I came up with.  I also love punches . . . can you tell?!  Finally found a tutorial on using the Scallop Border & Scallop Corner punches - I spent all morning wasting pieces of cardstock & being FRUSTRATED!!!!!  Here's the tutorial (thanks, Gretchen!!):  Gretchen Barron's Scallop Corner & Border Tutorial      I love the lacy look of scallops and the Lace Ribbon punch together.

Happy Stamping!

Thank Heaven for Little Girls . . .

I work on a pretty busy nursing unit, and lately it seems the young'uns have been "getting busy" (pardon the pun) because there are four young ladies in the family way - let's just say, those who can still reproduce have been a little wary about drinking the water!!  Anyhow, two of the four know they're having girls, so I came up with two of these sweet little cards that will go with their gifts.  I hope they'll like them - I had fun making them :)

Stamping in my sleep . . .

Well, sort of . . . I woke up this morning dreaming about an oval cut out on a card front with something underneath.  This is what I came up with.  My dream card was prettier :)  You know you're a die-hard crafter when you start dreaming about your hobby!

Experimenting . . .

I often see photos of other stampers' layered cards using torn paper . . . they always look so textured and cool.  A girl at work asked me to make a Father's Day card for her, so I thought I'd try to make it look really rough and masculine.  Not sure what I think of it - it definitely has a 3D thing going on, but I'm just not sure . . .

Proud Mom :)

So, my son just graduated from college last month.  Well, technically, he WALKED in the ceremony - he's finishing up a couple of classes this summer at the local community college & will officially get his diploma once he transfers those credits over.  Anyway, the price to ORDER graduation announcements was completely ridiculous, and truly, I only needed to send out a few.  Sooooo, thanks to the nice lady from the media department who sent me some image files, I was able to design my own at a fraction of the cost!

Good thing, since those student loan bills are gonna be rolling in soon :)  (Now if I can just get over the shock of realizing how old I really am . . .  !!)

Happy stamping :)

Bird & Bloom Box & Notes

My mom requested I make her a set of "bird" notecards.  Since she'll probably be mailing them, I didn't want to add a lot of ribbon or bling, but I think the tiny pearl embellishments dress it up just a bit.  As you've probably noticed, my style leans towards Clean and Simple - mostly because I'm just never sure of where to add a bow LOL

She likes the aqua/turquoise color family, so I did use a retired color that I just love, Sage Shadow.

Still trying to get the hang of the watermark - the colors are ALWAYS different than what I think I made!  Oh well.

Happy stamping!

Card recipe:
Sage Shadow (retired) and Very Vanilla (textured) cardstock, Punch Potpourri (hostess set, retiring June 30!!!  If you like the images, get your $150 order in by June 29 or host a workshop or class before then!), Two Step Bird, Scallop Lace, Modern Label, and Word Window punches, sentiment from Three Little Words, Sage Shadow classic ink (retired)

Box instructions to follow once I can figure out how to draw it out and scan it.  Thanks to my SIL Susan, a former Stampin' Up! demo for giving me a bag full of projects to take apart and play with :)

A special card commissioned by a special person - my mother-in-law :)

My mother-in-law is an amazing person.  She just celebrated her 80th birthday last month - my sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and my husband went all out to give her a HUGE surprise party and all four of her children, their spouses, most of the grandchildren and her new great-granddaughter were here, some from out of town (WAAAAAY out of town - as in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Seattle . . . ).  She had NO idea about her surprise party, believe it or not!!  It was great :)

Anyway, she had gotten an invitation to a 90th birthday party (coincidentally, the day after HER party!) and asked me to make a card for her.

I don't normally use much that isn't Stampin' Up! but my sweet sister-in-law from Wyoming, who is as crafty as they come, surprised me with her "old" Cricut machine when she arrived in town.  I was freaking out!!  So I just HAD to use it for this card.  No actual stamping on this one, just lots of embossing, punching, die-cutting, and bling!!!

Everyone just loved it - I'm crazy for the Concord Crush cardstock - actually can't wait to try it paired with the new Wisteria Wonder from this year's In Color collection.

Well, that's it for now - just wanted to share this card.  Hope you like it!

Happy stamping,

Jeni

Sneak Peek!

I'm so excited about the new 2011-12 Stampin' Up Idea Book and Catalog!  Here's a CAS ("clean and simple") card I've made using two of the new products.  Can you spot them?  Give up?  OK, I'll spill ;)  The cardstock is called Pool Party and I think it's my new favorite because it reminds me of a Tiffany's jewelry box.  The strip on the bottom of the card was punched using the new Lace Ribbon punch.

Too funny - I gave this card to my mom last weekend because she goes CRAZY for anything in this color family - told her I'd left it blank for her to send to a friend.  In true "Mom" fashion, she indignantly replied, "I'm not sending that to anyone; it's too pretty!  I'm keeping it for MYSELF!"  LOL  Guess you're never too old to have your mom want to keep your artwork ;)

Hope you enjoyed this preview.  Happy stamping!
