Best "Stupid Gadget" I Ever Bought!

OK, so this isn't stamp-related, but my baby is coming home from the marching band Disney trip today, and I wanted to make her some cupcakes.  Love to bake.  Hate to make cupcakes.  No matter what I do, I end up with batter all over the pan, the counter, myself - you get the picture.

Several months ago while DD17 & I were in Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I saw this nifty little batter gadget on the clearance rack for $6 because it was missing its lid.  It looked sad.  I like to make pancakes, too, but that's another story - but anyway, I thought it would be cool to be able to pull the little handle & make myself quick, perfect pancakes.  Yep.  That hasn't happened.

Anyway, I remembered this little "stupid gadget" (as DH likes to call my clearance rack finds - and can't blame him, because my junk drawers and shelves sort of take over the house sometimes - "OOOOOH, what does THIS gadget do?") as I was mixing the batter.

WELL.  Let me just say, this is my new favorite toy.  No drips.  No messy pan.  No messy me or counters!!!!  In about five seconds, I filled the cupcake liners and VOILA.  Into the oven they go.

I see MANY cupcakes in my future ;)

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Stampin' with my CCD kids :)

Here's a Thanksgiving card I designed last month but never got a chance to blog about :)  I took my Big Shot & all the supplies into CCD class this morning so my class kids could make cards for their families.  Inside, they listed things they were thankful for.  It was kinda funny but kinda sad that a lot of them said things like "My iPod" "My cell phone" "My laptop" . . . fortunately, there were a few who managed to save me from total disillusionment by saying they were grateful for their families, pets, homes, and the like.

What was I grateful for?  Well, since I woke up with a migraine & sick to my stomach, I was really thankful I'd already had this card designed & ready to go!!

Happy stampin' - and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Bright Hopes Silver Shimmer Pool Party Northern Frost Lodge . . . Oh heck, it's holiday-ish!!

Borrowed the double or blank embossed technique from this card in the Split Coast Stampers gallery, and since I just got the Northern Flurries Sizzlits die and some more Silver Shimmer paper, I just had to make some snowflakes to go with it.  Pool Party is my favorite new In Color this year.  It's just so pretty with the white and silver, isn't it?  I almost ALWAYS forget to add ribbon to cards, but remembered I'd ordered some of the ruffled ribbon before I fastened down the card front.  A little sponging on the edges adds some dimension.  The stamped image in the center is from Frostwood Lodge and the sentiment is from Bright Hopes, both from the Holiday Mini (also where you can get the Silver Shimmer paper).  If you'd like to order any of the supplies for this card, just hit the "Go Shopping" button over to the right and you'll be all set!  The holiday are fast approaching and this card could serve as either Christmas or New Year's, so be sure to shop the Mini before it's too late :)

Happy stampin'!

Addendum:  I had some requests as to how I left the "blank spot" in the center of the card, so here's a link to the video I learned it from.  The video uses a Cuttlebug, but I used my Big Shot:  Double or "Blank" Embossing Technique
I played around with this some more so I could give instructions using the BS. I cut an oval out from chipboard (used a piece from my order of Shimmer Paper) using a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of chipboard, with the oval cut out of the center. Using the Snowflake Embossing folder, which I taped the chipboard to the outside of so it wouldn't slip & my cardstock inside, here is the sandwich:
Multipurpose platform on Tab 1
ONE Cutting pad (clear acrylic from BS)
Embossing folder with chipboard taped to outside, cardstock inside (folder closed, of course)
Silicone rubber embossing pad

I then trimmed a bit from each edge of the embossed cardstock & rounded the corners with my punch and stamped my image in the center.

Re-Purposing Planners

So I was in Dollar Tree a couple of weeks ago & saw these REALLY ugly little planners - see it there, in the photo above?  That sad, sad, cheap blue vinyl yuck-o little guy?  Now, a planner's definitely useful, but there's no good reason it has to be butt-ugly, right?

I brought home a bunch of them & pulled out some DSP scraps - VOILA!!  Prettier planners :)

Ssssshh - the one with the peace signs isn't Stampin' Up! paper.  That one's for DD17 :)

Look around YOUR dollar store.  I bet you can find some sad, lonely, ugly but useful little thing YOU can prettify up, too.  See, crafting doesn't HAVE to be expensive!!

Happy stampin'!
