No, it's not "International Talk Like a Pirate Day".  Apparently that's on September 19th.

Have you ever had a card that you just have to keep coming back to and tweaking?  Yeah.  That would be me today.  . . . and because I forgot that my generic dollar store migraine relief tabs have caffeine in them, yeah, I'm also still wide awake at 2:09 a.m.

Anyway, this card has been giving me fits.  Not sure if that means I'm becoming more creative - because this is NOT CASEd, but my own card sketch & design :) - or I'm just crazy???  (Don't answer that - it was a rhetorical question!!).

First, I did this:

Then I decided it needed some color on the stamped image.  So I experimented with my Watercolor Wonder crayons (which I definitely haven't mastered yet):

Still wasn't quite happy.  So (since I couldn't sleep anyway), I experimented with softening the coloring a bit with a pencil eraser, and added a little "antiquing" to the ribbon & card edges with my Sponge Daubers & Soft Suede inkpad:

Maybe NOW I can sleep.  Happy stampin'!

  1. Very Pretty!!! Antiquing is perfect!!! Great color combo!!! Love your beatufil herringbone- worked perfect for your card!!! Thanks for playing along with Hand Stamped Sentiments, Diane

  2. Awesome job, on all three versions! I actually like the first one just as much :) and I have trouble getting Watercolor Wonder crayons to do what I like. You worked 'em fabulously. I love your herringbone background too! Thanks for joining us at Hand Stamped Sentiments! Erika

  3. I am so glad to see that others struggle with tweeking cards until they are right. I did the same thing with my card for this challenge. In the end, I stamped the sentiment and said "now why did I do that? I should have stuck with a simple Happy Birthday" Oh, well. Like my old painting teacher used to say, put it on the kitchen counter, and when you wake up (that's if you go to sleep, and I'm with you) it will look much better. To others it looks beautiful right now.

    1. Ha, isn't that the truth??? I am going to have to do some web surfing today & check out your blog!! Thanks for stopping by :)

  4. I too think they are all beautiful in their own way. I love the blank image but the coloring of the next one is so well done (doesn't look like you need practice) and then I love the addition of the antiquing. Thanks for playing with us at HSS.

  5. Wow loved how you showed the improvements you made on your card. That paper and image are perfect for each other. Thanks for playing with us this week at HSS.
