I'm a Believer! Fab Friday 22 Color Challenge

Hi Stampers!

Here's something I haven't done for a while - a blog challenge!  My online friends & fellow demonstrators Mindy Backes & crew, over on the Fab Friday Challenge Blog, have given us a color combo to work with this time.  Since "bold & bright" isn't usually my thing, I thought this would be a great way to kick up the mojo & see what I could do.

For this card, I pulled out all the stops and really tried to grunge it up:

Lots of stuff going on here:  sponging, distressing, stamping, embossing, bling, clay flowers . . . you get the idea.

Here's the color combo they gave us to work with:

Card Recipe:

Ink:  Black Craft, Stazon Black, Basic Gray
Cardstock:  Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red
Stamps:  Feel Goods, Gorgeous Grunge, Flowering Flourishes
Accessories:  Sponge, Distressing Tool, Basic Rhinestones, Large Rhinestones, Big Shot, Tulip Frame embossing folder, Black Stamp 'n Emboss Powder, Simply Pressed Clay & Molds, Dotted Ribbon (retired)

I love the saying on this one, "She Believed She Could, So She Did".  Isn't that the truth?  What dreams do YOU have, my friend?  Well, start believing and make 'em happen!!

Uh oh - you knew it was coming.  This cues up a song, right?  RIGHT!!  Love the Monkees' original, but let's do the Shrek version by Smashmouth:

Now, aside from my mom, who leaves me comments pretty frequently (thanks, Mom!!), I'd LOVE to hear what you think about this card, or my blog in general :-)

Retired But Still Relevant

Hi Stampers!

Today I have a card for you using some retired items.  Some bloggers don't believe in posting creations with things that are no longer available, but hey - I'm sure you use up everything you have in YOUR stash, right??

To tell the truth, the inspiration for this post came from my frustration this past weekend that I don't seem to have any cream or vanilla colored embossing powder.  The new Chalk Talk set just BEGS to be embossed.  Which is FINE - if I want to do a nice, pure white.  But sometimes I'd like a softer, more antique look.

After a VERY frustrating search on the 'net, I finally stumbled upon the idea of using Whisper White Craft Ink with Clear EP over top of it.  It's still not quite what I was aiming for, but it did turn out to be softer than a stark white.  In order to test it out, I dug into my stash & used some DSP from the retired Mocha Morning Specialty pack (one of my very FAVORITE DSPs ever), the ribbon roses featured in last spring's seasonal catty, and added in some Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon (also retired).  See what you think:

If you know of a source for a vanilla or cream colored, truly opaque embossing powder, I'd love for you to clue me in!  I'm beginning to think there's no such thing.  . . . and you know me, now I will OBSESS about finding some!!

Rockin' the Grunge!

Hi Stampers!

Grunge is all the rage and in the crafting world, that's no different.  One of our new sets in this year's catty is called Gorgeous Grunge and I've fallen in love with it, especially after seeing so many other demos using it.

As you already know, I follow Lyssa Zwolanek's Song of My Heart Stampers blog faithfully.  She's out of Wisconsin & is one of the top demonstrators for SU!  Recently, Lyssa featured Gorgeous Grunge on her blog and certainly convinced ME I had to have this set!  (Nothing like a little demo to demo enabling, huh?!)

First, I'll show you my CASE of a Lyssa card using this set:

. . . and here's the link to Lyssa's card and post.  Go check it out and come back:  Gorgeously Grungy Flourishes

Now, I am telling you, she can rock a stamp set, that girl!  I don't know about you, but I'd never have thought to use grunge with flowers like Lyssa did.  But of course, that's just why she's amazing AND just promoted to Executive - I'm a proud online friend :-)

This is also another reason I LOVE being a part of Stampin' Up! and the papercrafting world.  We stampers are generous with our ideas and inspiration.  If anything on this blog inspires YOU, how about dropping me a comment?  It's every blogger's delight to have feedback on what we do.  Kind of nice to know that someone out there IS actually reading us!  :-)

Now, of course I've got a "thought for the day" for you, too.  I adore the sentiment on this card, because I'm so fortunate to have friends that I like to just "do nothing" with.  You know, sitting quietly, just chillin' - comfortable in each other's company.  I hope you've got people in your life like that, my friends.

Card recipe:

Ink:  Baked Brown Sugar
Cardstock:  Very Vanilla, Baked Brown Sugar
Stamps:  Flowering Flourishes, Gorgeous Grunge, From My Heart
Accessories:  Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Linen Thread, Antique Brads, Stretch Ruffle Trim in Baked Brown Sugar, Large Oval Punch, Basic Pearls, sponge

This Too Shall Pass

Hi Stampers!

I've had my eye on the stamp set From My Heart since it came out last year, but for one reason or another, just never got around to ordering it.  Finally remembered to put it on my last splurge, so I've been having fun playing with the various sentiments.

There are really some good ones in this set and not only does one coordinate with the Labels Framelits, they lend themselves well to the Ovals and various punches, or you can even "fussy cut" them.

For today's card, I wanted to use some more of the Afternoon Picnic DSP, but also wanted to do something that might be suitable for a guy or a girl.  I played around with adding some ribbon or not, and ended up using it, but I think that final touch made it just a little too frilly to give to a man.  See what you think:

Remember yesterday's post where I mentioned I'd used Bermuda Bay ink?  Same here, as I'd stamped out the images from the set prior to making anything.  Still looks nice, no?  Now, the Summer Afternoon DSP coordinates with, among other colors, Crushed Curry, but I don't have any of that CS yet.  So, I used a little Summer Starfruit instead, and it blended just as well.  Don't ever think you have to have *everything* - check your stash & see what you can come up with in a pinch!

From My Heart  CM 126557  $28.95  WM 132007  $39.95

Afternoon Picnic DSP 131390  $10.95  12 sheets, 2 each of 6 double-sided designs

Shoot me a comment and let me know how you like this card - would you add the ribbon or no ribbon?  Give me an opinion!

Card Recipe:

Ink:  Bermuda Bay
Cardstock:  Coastal Cabana, Basic Gray, Summer Starfruit
DSP:  Afternoon Picnic
Stamps:  From My Heart
Accessories:  Labels Framelits, Modern Label & Word Window Punches,  Ruffle Stretch Trim in Coastal Cabana, In Color Boutique Details in Coastal Cabana

James Taylor on the Brain - "Easel"-ing on Down the Road

Hi Stampers!

Easel cards are some of my favorite cards to make.  They're super-easy but have that little "wow" factor that is so impressive.  I always think they're especially nice for birthday or thinking of you occasions, since the recipient can just prop them up & enjoy the sentiment.  Oh, and by the way, have you noticed our new Ruffle Stretch Trim yet?  I thought it would be perfect to outline the oval cut-out on this card:

Isn't it sweet?  The Ruffle Stretch Trim is just MADE for shapes.  There's just enough stretch that it's super-easy to follow the outline of your cut-out with no rippling or bowing.  I used Sticky Strip on the back of my DSP oval and just went around with the trim.  Gorgeous!

I noticed after the fact that I'd actually stamped my image in Bermuda Bay & then used CS & DSP coordinating with Coastal Cabana, but our Stampin' Up! colors work so well together, it didn't even matter!

Of course, that little saying up there isn't from James Taylor, the singer - I think it's James Taylor, the President.  However, since I now have James Taylor on the brain today, here's a little song for you, Mockingbird feat. Carly Simon (they were so cute when they were together!!):

Card Recipe:

Ink:  Bermuda Bay
Cardstock:  Coastal Cabana
DSP:  Afternoon Picnic
Stamps:  From My Heart
Accessories:  Ruffle Stretch Trim in Coastal Cabana, Basic Pearls, Ovals Framelits, Big Shot, Modern Label Punch, Sticky Strip

So now that "Mockingbird" is rattling around in your brain, get out there and dance!  It's good exercise and sure to bring a smile to your face while you're just passing some time :-)

Happy stampin'!

Gettin' Sassy!

Hi Stampers!!

Got some of my new goodies and I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

Washi tape is the big thing in papercrafting this season.  Now, (you know I'm gonna say it again) this isn't something that immediately made me jump up and down with joy.  There are TONS of patterns and colors out there; but as usual, when faced with too many choices, my brain just backs up, gets all confused & bristle-y and decides I just shouldn't work with the stuff.  However, I've seen so many adorable cards and projects using washi tape, that I really did want to give it a try.  But where to start?

Fortunately, Stampin' Up! must have known there'd be crafters like me out there - the ones who just can't decide what color or pattern to get.  They came up with a PERFECT stamp set called Tape It, and here's my first card using it:

Check it out.  Those washi tape strips are actually STAMPED on!  The sweet thing about this set is that I can make my "washi tape" any Stampin' Up! ink color I want, in any of the "textures" the stamps come in!  How cool is that?

Want this cute stamp set or any of the other items I used on this simple 3-layer card?  You know where to go!  Click over to my online store & shop to your heart's content, 24 hours a day - 7 days a week.

Tape It:  CM 130715 $18.95  WM 130712 $26.95

Sassy Salutations:  CM 126707  $17.95  WM 132070  $23.95

Card recipe:

Ink:  Blushing Bride, Pear Pizazz, Smokey Slate, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry
Cardstock:  Smokey Slate, Coastal Cabana
Stamps:  Tape It, Sassy Salutations

In a Vintage-y Mood . . . .

Hi Stampers!

While I'm waiting for my new goodies to arrive, I've been working with things I have around & trying to challenge myself to just let the creative mojo flow.  This is fun, but also makes me aware that I need to clean out my craft area - drawers, cubbies, etc.!!  I've been finding a LOT of cards hanging about that could probably be used by someone - might just take them in to work & let the co-workers have at them . . . some are mine and some are from swaps, but no use in them sitting here unused!

While I was poking around my stash, I realized I have an embossing folder I have NEVER used - not sure why!  I think I've had it lying about for at least a couple years, too.  Was feeling a little vintage-y so I busted out my favorite neutral, Crumb Cake, and came up with this:

I've been trying to teach myself how to resize & move my watermark too - I think I finally figured it out!  Small things make me happy :-)

As I'm sitting here typing this, the rain is drizzling again.  So glad I was able to spend the last couple days with two of my best friends lying in the sun and swimming - separate occasions - and very grateful when it's hot & muggy for friends with pools!

Card recipe:

Ink:  Baked Brown Sugar
Cardstock:  Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla
DSP:  Natural Composition Specialty
Stamps:  Chalk Talk
Accessories:  1 3/4" Scallop Circle punch, 1 3/8" Circle punch, Crochet Trim Victoria 5/8", Linen Thread, Very Vintage Designer Buttons, Basic Pearls, Flower Garden embossing folder

Gratitude & Smiles . . .

Hi Stampers!

I've been playing around with some new stamp sets and the Quatrefancy Specialty DSP (Wait, you figured that out???  Oh damn.  I'm not as sneaky as I thought!!  lol).  Also trying to get out of my comfort zone with color.  Real Red is one of my favorite cardstock colors, but I'm not a "bold" type of designer.  The window sheets from Quatrefancy caught my eye, though, and I came up with this:

I find myself going back again and again to this stamp from Chalk Talk.  There are SO many people that I'm grateful for in my life, so this sentiment is definitely getting a lot of use.

Card Recipe:

Ink:  White Craft
Cardstock:  Real Red
DSP:  Quatrefancy Specialty
Stamps:  Chalk Talk
Accessories:  White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Silver Glimmer Paper, Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Stamp 'n Pierce Mat, Paper Piercing Tool, Paper Piercing Pack - Essentials

Uncle Kracker had a song out a couple years ago that's also a favorite of mine, "You Make Me Smile".  Thinking about people I'm grateful for always reminds me of this little number, as well.  Have you heard it?  Here's the link in case the video doesn't work for you:

My wish for you today is that you have friends and special people in your life that make you smile, whether you see them every day, once a year, or just once in a while.  Without those smiles, life would be bland indeed!!

CASEing My Upline . . . .

Hi Stampers!

Last weekend I got to go to my upline's #1 Stampers meeting, where she always has 3 Make & Takes for us to do.  I love all the cards she creates for us, but one was my favorite because I just adore the new Chalk Talk set.

Here's my version of Kim's card:

. . . and here's Kim's card:

Of course, I had to order that new embossing folder after making Kim's card :-)  See the washi tape, there?  Cuteness!!  And the new Candy Dots are so much fun!!  Looks just like a brad, but you just stick 'em on!  Haven't ordered them YET, but soon!!!

Leave me a comment and let me know how you like these two cards!

Card Recipe (for Jeni's card):

Ink:  Strawberry Slush, Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar
Cardstock:  Strawberry Slush, Baked Brown Sugar
Stamps:  Chalk Talk, Mosaic Madness
Accessories:  Mosaic embossing folder, Mosaic punch, Chalk Talk Framelits, Resin Roses (retired), Stitched Satin Ribbon in Primrose Petals

Banner Greetings & Friends Forever

Hi Stampers!

My "imaginarium" continues to prod me along.  It's great when the stampin' mojo decides to visit me, or possibly I've got a muse out there somewhere??

Anyway, it hit me the other night how well one of the designs from the Natural Composition Specialty DSP goes with the new Mosaic Madness bundle.  That along with my new love for Coastal Cabana with Baked Brown Sugar inspired this little card:

I was kind of aiming for something that could be either for a guy or a girl, but maybe this turned out a little feminine, not sure . . .

Washi tape is a big craze this year, but since my latest order won't be in until next week, I sort of thought one of the long stamps from Mosaic Madness might give a "washi" look.  What do you think?

Now, when Pool Party was one of the In Colors (and it's now a core color, HURRAY!!!!), I thought it was a pretty good match for one of my all time favorite colors, Tiffany Blue.  I'm starting to think Coastal Cabana is even BETTER.  (Of course, nothing can beat the thrill of a Tiffany's box, but hey - new Stampin' Up! stuff does come pretty close!!)

Hope you're using this long weekend to be creative and crafty, or just spend some time doing whatever it is you love!

Card Recipe:

Cardstock: Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana
DSP:  Natural Composition Specialty, Quatrefancy Specialty

Artists Unite - Loving the New In Colors!

Hi Stampers!

Really wasn't too thrilled with Baked Brown Sugar at first, but I was showing the new catty to a friend the other day, and he pointed to it & said, "That's a nice color!"  Since he's an artist as well, albeit musically, (and I respect his opinion) I took a second look and decided to experiment with it more.  Good call!  I'm really starting to like it A LOT.

Remember how I told you sometimes when new things come out I go "Yuck!!" until I work with them a while?  Well, that's sure true of the new In Colors :-)  The more I use them, the more I LOVE them!  Last night I sat down with my new ink pads, cardstock, and some of the Quatrefancy & Natural Composition Specialty DSP and just let my "imaginarium" run wild.  Here's one of the results:

I just noticed I need to bust out my Stamp-a-ma-jig - a little crookedy stampin' going on up there!!  Need a lesson on my new watermark, too . . . couldn't figure out how to make it bigger.  Well, regardless of that, I just LOVE the combo of Baked Brown Sugar and Coastal Cabana.

Since I have a few days off, I'll be playing around with the new In Colors & posting some more "imaginariums" here for your blogging pleasure.  Shoot me a comment & tell me what you think!!
