Free For All Friday: Using 8 1/2" x 11" Cardstock for the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits Die

Hi Stampers!

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm away for the weekend crafting my heart out.  My brain fogs pretty frequently in my artistic frenzy, and I forgot that I DID have some 12" x 12" Daffodil Delight cardstock on hand.

I was thinking I only had 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock, and I had promised my good friend Cathy to make her some Minions out of the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits Die.  This is a tricky little die to lay out, and you really have to have about a 6" width to set it up on the Magnetic Platform.

Now, I didn't want to waste cardstock, but if I'd cut it in half at 5 1/2" inches, it wouldn't be quite wide enough to accommodate the die.

DON'T even ask me how I had the brainstorm to cut my paper diagonally-ish to get the width I'd need - BUT I DID!!!!

Here are some photos to walk you through it, in case you find yourself with only 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock & need to cut some of these babies out:

I made a pencil mark at 3 1/2" on opposite ends and sides.

Lined up the pencil marks on my favorite retired paper trimmer.  You could use our newer one, as well.

Next, I trimmed off the edge just slightly less than 6" wide so it'll fit through my Big Shot.

Here's what your cardstock pieces look like.

Line up your Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits Die & run it through (you need two to make a box).

What do y'all think?!  I'm pretty pleased with myself - it's not often I figure out something like this!  Hope it helps somebody out there in papercraft land :)

Happy stampin'!
